Shelley Mihm

Shelley Mihm, soprano, holds a B.M. in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota and an M.M. in voice from the University of North Carolina–Greensboro. She joined Really Spicy Opera in its 2015 production of The Clever Artifice of Harriet and Margaret at the Minnesota Fringe Festival. She returns for the company’s historic 2020 production of Grétry’s 1781 opera Émilie, ou la belle esclave, playing Orphise.


Praised for, “wide-ranging expressiveness” and “effortless control,” Minnesota native Shelley Marie Mihm recently appeared as Musetta in La bohème with Taconic Opera, the Soldier in The Falling and the Rising, Zelda in The Ghosts of Gatsby, and Cleopatra in Giulio Cesare with Seagle Music Colony of New York. Mihm was named a winner of the North Carolina District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in 2018, a winner of the North Dakota District in 2015, and an encouragement award recipient in Minnesota and South Carolina in 2014 and 2017. Mihm also placed second in the Schubert Club Vocal Competition, and has been named a finalist in prestigious competitions such as the Brava! Opera Theatre James M. Collier Vocal Competition, the Licia Albanese-Puccini Vocal Competition, the Lois Alba Aria Competition, the Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition, and the Classical Singer Competition. Past roles include Magda Sorel in The Consul, Micaëla in Carmen, Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella, Blanche in Dialogues des Carmélites, Sāvitri in Sāvitri, Margaret in The Clever Artifice of Harriet and Margaret, the Vixen in The Cunning Little Vixen, and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Mihm holds a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina Greensboro. Mihm now resides in New York City and studies with Deborah Birnbaum.
