2017 – The Last Five Years

Really Spicy Opera announces auditions for a special touring production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical The Last Five Years. This production will play at the Orlando and Montreal Fringe Festivals, with double casting and potential mid-tour cast replacements for scheduling reasons.

Key Dates

  • Orlando Fringe Festival: Tuesday, May 16, 2017-Monday, May 29, 2017
  • Montreal Fringe Festival: Monday, May 29, 2017-Sunday, June 18, 2017

Due to the nature of Fringe scheduling, the exact performance dates will be specified in early 2017; we are therefore looking specifically for singer-actors with flexible schedules during some or all of this production window.

If you are student enrolled in classes during the Spring 2017 semester, it is unlikely that your availability corresponds to our rehearsal and touring dates.

Rehearsals

Preliminary rehearsals are tentatively scheduled to begin April 3, 2017, and to increase in frequency after April 17 (that’s after Easter for you church musicians). Rehearsals will take place in western Minneapolis in the Cedar Lake-East Isles-Bryn Mawr area.

Since this is a show for two actors, many of its rehearsal dynamics will be very different than with a larger show. This is not the sort of show where you have a lot of downtime when you’re called for rehearsal…but we also don’t need to call you as often as for a larger show.

Touring Dynamics

During the tour, Cast B will support Cast A while Cast A is onstage (e.g., stage management, street team) and vice versa. We are also especially interested in casting a singer-actor-pianist as part of this team who can serve as the backup pianist in case of illness (this is, after all, a tour). We will also be scheduling various additional performances (for which additional compensation will be provided) once the final festival performance dates are assigned. However, you can expect to have significant personal downtime to enjoy and explore Orlando and Montreal.

Travel, touring housing, and per diem included.

Audition Day

Singer-actors are encouraged to audition with material from the show. Please prepare one song and a short contemporary monologue.

Auditions will take place at the Minnesota Opera Center at 620 N 1st St, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Signups are available online.

Drama that burns and music that sates.
