2017 – Game of Thrones: The Musical (Hawaii)

November 1, 2016

Really Spicy Opera is currently conducting virtual auditions for its January 2017 productions of Game of Thrones: The Musical at the O’ahu Fringe Festival (Jan. 12-15, 2017) and Maui Fringe Festival (Jan. 20-22, 2017).

Game of Thrones: The Musical is an award-winning parody of the hit HBO TV series. The show’s 2016 world premiere in Minneapolis, Minnesota was an audience hit that garnered critical praise and Best of Fringe and Editor’s Pick awards. Now we’re coming to Honolulu and Wailuku and we’d like you to be a part of it!

Key Dates

O’ahu FF Tech: TBD (either Monday, 1/9, Tuesday, 1/10, or Wednesday, 1/11)

O’ahu FF Performances: Thursday, 1/12-Sunday, 1/15 (Exact days and time TBD)

Maui FF Tech: TBD (most likely Wednesday, 1/18)

Maui FF Performances: Friday, 1/20-Sunday, 1/22

Rehearsal Schedule and Process

We are open to performers residing on any island, although for logistical reasons it will be more practical if you are on O’ahu or Maui. We’ll cover inter-island travel for the performance week itself (one round trip per person) and the festival is tentatively offering housing for off-island artists.

Solo rehearsals may (at the option of the director) be conducted remotely via video, so as to cut down on time in traffic.

A complete script, score, and video recording are available; solo rehearsals will begin Monday, 11/30/16 (right after Thanksgiving), with ensemble rehearsals scheduled in December 2016, with final touch-ups in early January.

Compensation

All participating artists will receive free digital headshot sessions, vocal and dramatic coaching, and a $200 stipend.

If you live in Maui, one roundtrip airfare from Maui to Oahu for the show run there is included. If you live in Oahu, one roundtrip airfare from Oahu to Maui for the show run there is included.

Available Roles

This show is written for a multi-talented ensemble playing multiple roles as we march through Westeros and massacre lots of puppets. (Seriously, this is probably going to have the highest puppet body count of any show you’ve ever seen or been involved in.) Casting is ethnically, age-, and gender-blind. At  the Minnesota premiere, each of the 8 cast members played 1-2 principal roles and 3-5 smaller roles.

An ability to play an instrument on-stage or prior experience in hand or hand-and-rod puppets is helpful but not required.
